Goodbye 205!

Everything is out, there is a big pile of trash by the curb and the place is 'get your deposit back' clean. 205 Mannion was good to us for the last three and a half years, but we are happy to have a new house to call home.

Technology Installed!

I think it's official now.  We definitely live here.  I got the wireless network up and running!!!

We've also got 3 TVs installed and 2 beds.  I've still got to do some modifications to make our bed work properly.

Advil and Troegenator are helping with the various moving-related maladies.

John Building His Bed

We got a good spot in the weather so we decided to load up everything we could and get things started at the new house. As you can see, John is enthusiastic about his new room. Emma is too in a totally different way. She's already using it for a nap!

Friday Fantastic Four

Loyal readers will know that my student worker Isaac has been helping out with the Fantastic Four this summer because I have been slacking.

Today, it's his turn to slack, so it's my turn again.  This week's list is inspired by the news that Josh Duhamel will headline NBC's remake of the classic 1970s TV series The Rockford Files.  I'm sure if you already know TRF is my favorite TV show ever, so #1 on the list comes as no surprise.

What are your four favorite TV Show Theme Songs?

  1. The Rockford Files - They're updating the show to the present day, so the theme might not survive, but I sure hope it does
  2. Cheers - who doesn't love the feeling of walking into you favorite bar or restaurant and having everyone say hello?
  3. Hill Street Blues - the sad piano repetitions and jazzy guitar matched the show perfectly
  4. The Dukes of Hazzard - Waylon Jennings was the narrator for the show and sang the theme for the show we all watched in

Everyone have a great weekend!

John Is Famous!

There are benefits to having a significant other who is in public relations.  One is that the kids get in the paper with startling regularity.  Emma has been a front page girl three times in the last year and today it's John's turn

BatBoy He had a great time last week as the Coco Key Honorary Bat Boy at the Camden Riversharks game.  And now he's even more excited to be the focus of media attention for even a few days.

Special thanks to Brian Burgamy (#7) for spending some one on one time in the dugout with John and also to Dom Principato, of Deptford, who helped John get comfortable in the dugout before the game.

It was a thrill to be on a beautiful field playing catch with my son as the guys got ready to play last Monday.  Thanks again to everyone who made it happen, especially Char.

Friday Fantastic Four

Things are a little crazy here lately, so this post had to wait until Monday at lunchtime.  Sorry for all the folks who stopped by over the weekend looking, but here ya go.  With GI Joe over $150 million worldwide in box office reciepts, it begs the question:

What are the four best action movies of all time?

  1. Die Hard
  2. Raiders of the Lost Ark
  3. The Great Escape
  4. Braveheart

Die Hard defined big budget action for the late 20th century.  Raiders had it all, funny, smart, action scenes and a beautiful girl.  The Great Escape is the best story of the four and Braveheart is both beautiful and gut-wrenching to watch.

I am a big fan of action movies, but not the mindless ones.  Let me know what's on your list!

Welcome to Gettysburg!

I am in south-central Pennsylvania today teaching at a conference for new college admission counselors. It's insanely hot, but I am happy to be here and I just want to help the ballclub.

It's hard to believe that it's been 17 years since I was here for the same workshop as a newbie in higher ed. -- Sent from my mobile deviceIMG00137-20090810-1328.jpg

Ian Coffey of Albany, New York has been building on Mothers' Beach in Kennebunk, Maine all week. Today's giant castle was started at 11 this morning. Ian is hoping it makes it through the night for others to enjoy. Good work Ian! -- Sent from my mobile deviceIMG00122-20090806-1951.jpg

Obligatory George Bush House Photo

We're in Kennebunkport this week, so I am darn near required to post a photo of Walker's Point, summer home of Bush 41 and location of some wild times for Bush 43 before he sobered up.

Security is evident today, so one or both are here. It's an incredible location overlooking a sheltered cove on one side and the open Atlantic on the other.

Ok. Time to head down to the beach! Sent from my BlackBerry Tour 9630IMG00090-20090803-1545.jpg

Lunch in Portsmouth

We are sad that Kevin and Billy needed to head home, so we decided to head south in traffic for lunch. After quite a trip we are gathered around a giant table at Portsmouth Brewery. Moods are improving! Sent from my BlackBerry Tour 9630IMG00088-20090802-1620.jpg

Most of our housemate are still asleep, but the golfers are already making their rounds. The fog is supposed to burn off and we'll have another nice day later on. Sent from my BlackBerry Tour 9630IMG00086-20090802-0748.jpg
