Weird Kids

Somewhere along the line my kids started eating their pasta piled on top of their garlic bread. They also always require mac and cheese to be served with ham so they can dip the ham in the cheese sauce.

Weird kids! But no weirder than I am I guess, given that I like my red wine chilled way cooler than standard and my beer far warmer than is generally served here in the states.

Steve Russo: Father of the Year

This story from the Daily News is great for two reasons.  First it reinforces my belief that you should have to get a license to be a parent.  Second, Will Bunch has one of the best leads ever in the story.

Bottom line is that some nimrod named Steve Russo in Bethlehem, PA 'allegedly' let his 16 year old son have a party in the basement.  No big deal, right?  Yeah, but maybe the part where he 'allegedly' gave them beer and rum was a bit over the line.  Or the part where he 'allegedly' got some high school girls to kiss him and dance on the stripper pole he has in the basement.

In case you need further proof the guy is a total and complete moron - the cops wold never have found out if he hadn't let the kids take pictures and post them all over Facebook.

See all this goes back to my point that it's just too easy to have kids.  It's more red tape to catch a fish legally than it is to have a kid.

Walmart Weirdness

Did you know that there is an 800 number for Walmart Employees to call in sick?  Yup.  Walmart is so massive it has a special, national 800 number for calling in sick.

It's 1-800-775-5944 in case you are wondering.

Important Investigation

A brick-sized piece of iron smashed though the roof of a building in Jersey City, NJ this morning.  No one was hurt.  Kind of interesting, right?

Well check out what the Inquirer does with the story.

They talk to the moving company owner who was in the building.  Ok.  That's a natural.  They talk to the FAA. Ok. I can see that one too.  And they talk to NOAA.  In case it was a meteor I guess.

Here's the line that has me scratching my head:

"Local police are investigating."

What the *&^% are they investigating? And how? Are they gonna check the radar tracks from Newark-Liberty?  Interview the movers to see if they have any enemies from say Mars?  Get out their gas chromatographs to determine the composition of the space junk?  And why the heck would the reporter bother to ask the police anything about space junk hitting a building?

Science Thursday

Here's an educational video for you.  Ever wonder what ant colonies look like underground?  Well this video show what happens if you fill a giant ant colony with a thin concrete mixture, let the concrete dry and then dig it all up.

When I was in college,  I played a game called SimAnt for a few days.  Not nearly as cool as this though.  I'm guessing my backyard ants do pretty much the same thing on a smaller scale.  Pretty amazing if you ask me!  How they get air that deep I can't figure out.

Some People Have No Shame

Now I guess that it goes without saying that people who pay other folks take their clothes off and umm uhh entertain have little shame, but this one takes the cake for me.

Hustler Magazine king and first amendment crusader Larry Flynt and the Girls Gone Wild founder Joe Francis want Congress to, in Flynt's words, "rejuvenate the sexual appetite of America."  I was unaware that the current bout of economic misery had affected sexual appetites.  Flynt seems to think it has and he has his hat in his hand in DC, asking for $5 billion in federal aid. 

I'm not sure it's any sillier than just writing a giant blank check for Wall Street moguls who then party it up at the St. Regis with our tax dollars. 

Well This Will Wake Things Up

I don't know about you, but I tend to think of topless joints as a later in the day kind of thing.

Donald Crabtree, however thinks differently.  He's proposed a topless coffee shop for sleepy little Vassalboro, Maine.

I've been there.  The town needs something.  I'm just not sure it's a topless coffee shop.  Don't get me wrong.  I am not anti-nudity.  God no.  And I am not anti-coffee shop.  But I am not sure the two mix well.  Especially not in rural Maine.

But it might keep things warm in the winter!
